Why Crow didn't sign

The Nats could not promise that he would be able to get popcorn without waiting in line for 30 minutes. :)

Seriously though, good riddance. The last thing this team needs is every draft pick bending us over a barrel. We went above slot for many players in order to restock the farm system last year, but you don't let some unproven guy make crazy demands and get away with them. Maybe they should not have drafted Crow at all, but I am glad they didn't sign him at his price. Sure he might be a nice pitcher someday, but it's not like the Nats are one player away from respectability.

The dual nature of this blog didn't dawn on me until recently, but man I miss the excitement of Redskins games at RFK. Sort of like the Phone Booth was at the end of last year, as the best run franchise(scary isn't it) in DC made their run to a South East Division Championship.

It not right to say corners were cut, but because of the circumstances, every non-essential item was omitted in the race to build GSS before JKC passed away. The fact that the stadium was completed in 18 months was actually quite an impressive engineering and construction project management feat. But, it left us with a large, barren, and characterless facility. And to accommodate the 2 full stories of luxury boxes, the uppoer deck is far too high. Much credit needs to be extended to the Danny for his efforts to gussie up the place, but you can only dress up a sow's ear so much.

I have been to games at the real Giants Stadium and find it to be quite an agreable place to watch a game. I am not saying it is the best football stadium, but many of its key features have been incorporated into most of the new football stadiums since then. In that GSS so closely resembles Giants Stadium is diappointing. Ironically, I think if we had built an exact copy, we would have had a better stadium.

Personally, I rate M&T Bank Stadium as the best football stadium I've been to. U of Georgia's Sanford Stadium isn't bad either.

Crow didn’t sign because he didn’t want to play for the Nats. Plan and simple. This is the same reason why the Nats won't be able to attract any Free Agents of any worth. Who wants to play for such an incompetent organization? You have cheapskates for owners, a president of baseball operations who is more concerned about expanding the Red Loft than providing a better product on the field, a buffoon for a GM, and a coach whose psycho-babble would make Yoda proud. Evict the Nats from the new Stadium and all hail the reborn St. Louis Cardinal, Felipe Lopez. He looks more like a Phoenix than a Cardinal.

Another reason why I hate STBNGNP -Playing at a place like RFK forces an organization to put a good team on the field to draw big crowds. I want to know where the promise to increase spending with the new stadium revenue streams went. Failure to sign the first round pick in such an embarassing manner makes one wonder just what the $#@&!! ls "The Plan".

With lack of hitting so painfully obvious as the team's greatest need, I question the judgement of going for a pitcher in the first place. Particularly a guy who all in baseball knew was going to be difficult to deal with. At this point, WE NEED BATS!

Dman- the Plan is NOT to have a good team. Instead, the Lerners' business model is to keep expenses low by fielding a lousy team and attracting the huge fan base of the Mets, Phillies, Braves, Cardinals, etc to make money. It is these fans that are propping up the attendance numbers at the new stadium and propped up RFK's numbers. The Lerners are Machiavellian reprobates and make Bob Short look like a choir boy. Local baseball fans have been played for suckers. MLB did a better job managing the Nats than these real estate developers. We should go to a game and wear bags over our heads expect the Nats Nazis would probably throw us out because of the totalitarian underpinnings of the organization. Maybe they will at least let me grab a Ben's Half smoke before kicking me out. Oh, according to Mrs. El Rey, the nachos she had last week in the Club Level were some of the best she has ever had.
