Ugh

Well, hats of to the gwitch-ster for resurrecting this nightmare. I thought it could die a slow, painless death much like the gNats. I'm with El Rey...34 years for this? No baseball is better than this. The freaking Royals are better than the ex-Expos. I just want it all to end and for the Danny to rip down RFK and replace it with a 125,000 retractable dome stadium visible from space.

Jason Taylor anyone?

What's made me most bitter is that the baseball team was going to be my salvation and allow me to forever walk away from the NFL franchise I grew up loving. That is before the Danny and his minion The vinny came in and destroyed it. But now, I have no choice. I have to fight against the dying of the light because my 9 year old daughter thinks Tom Brady's great and has announced the Patriots to be her favorite team. At least it's not Eli and the Giants...yet. Who am I kidding? Given the choice between her room and a cardboard box on Constitution Ave, I'm sure she'd take her room.

That Jason Taylor is handsome and a good dancer. The best thing that ever happened to Danny is the Lerners. Danny doesn’t seem so bad now. At least he is trying a build a winner and his handling of the Sawn Taylor tragedy was classy. Hey, Lerners, I thought you were suppose to have a Frank Robinson Night to honor a man who actually had the Nats in first place once upon a time? D.C. sports fans have another alternative in this town - the Washington Capitals. Mrs. El Rey and I are now season ticket holders. You have to love the Capitals owner - Ted Leonis. He patiently rebuilt the Caps while bleeding red ink. He also has a good management team in place although they could have done a better job with the Olie the Goalie situation. The Lerners are not serious about putting a quality team out on the field. Why should they? Mets (insert any old school team) fans' money is green and that is all the Lerners care about. I look forward to seeing far fewer Flyer and Penguin fans this year at Verizon Center because sales of Caps season tickets are exploding. Go Capitals!!! And of course, Hail to the Redskins!

the gwitch-ster is a cold weather lacrosse (hockey) mullet as well. One thing I like that Ted did was go back to the red jerseys. Abe needs to follow suit and bring back Les Bullets.

It actually appears that Dan Snyder is learning from his mistakes from the past and is evolving as an owner. Let's face it - many of those mistakes were due to his youthful exuberence as a fan trying to improve his team fast. Not really a bad thing. He's willing to spend the money - its just taken a while for him to learn to spend it better.
We all know pre-season results don't necessarily translate into regular season success, but I like what I am seeing under Coach Z - a team that is well prepared and ready to play with an organized coaching staff in control of the game. If the Skins win big, those of us who are fans of the SB emails are going to have a lot of fun with Coach Z. Go Skins! ... Nats too, of course, because this is supposed to be a baseball blog.

I probably dislike Giants Stadium South more than STBNGNP.

A fan experience note. My wife and I went to the game on the 12th. One of the few deals in the new park is the giant popcorn bucket sold at the stand-alone popcorn carts. We passed the cart on the main concourse as I confidently told Mrs. DMan there is a cart right at the top of the first base side escalator to the upper deck. You guessed it - that stand was closed. After a couple of innings I went to go get the popcorn. Had to walk down the ramps because the escalator is still running up and the line was 20 deep at the popcorn cart. End result - hat thrown down on the concourse in disgust and I never got the bucket of popcorn. That line was just too long. Given it was the start of a new homestand and the Mets were in town, meaning there crowd would be large, this is just inexcusable in my book.

We also experimented with taking the subway for the first time. Took over 2 hours to get home. Games have now been declared "too much of a hassle to get to".

BTW, the Kosher Stand still does not have Sauerkraut, while Senators Sauage right next door inexplicably does.

God I hate STBNGNP.

Giants Stadium South blows too. I think I've changed my mind. We should build the stadium for DC United so we can go for the triple crown. Worst new football stadium, worst new baseball stadium, and worst new soccer stadium. Wooo Hooo! We're DC, I'm sure we can do it!

That's a drag about the Metro. I've only had good experience with it. Compared to getting to Giants Stadium South, it's a godsend.

Your trifecta of bad stadiums is a good idea. But that means we'll have to un-implode the Cap Centre as I sort of like the phone booth.

There is now a street vendor who sets up behind the DOT buildings for Nat games who has a good sales pitch, "Pay real prices for bottled water - $1.00" Needless to say, his business is booming and you do hear a lot of editorial comments from thirsty patrons about the obscene prices at the stadium. Dman - the popcorn incident is classic. With your luck, you would probably go to Build A Bear only to discover they had run out of bear stuffing :O).

Easy on the Latin, guys...we're running a blog here, not the Algonquin Round Table.

Speaking of Latin, did you know Felipe Lopez is batting .321 since being picked up by the Cardinals? There is something obviously wrong with the Nationals club house. See, Felipe wasn't the problem nor was he a cancer on the team. He just needed some old school tough love administered by Tony La Russa instead of Acta's politically correct psycho-babble. Felipe has been reborn! Poder Felipe!!!!!!! (Felipe Power). Geez, Acta must be the most mild mannered Latino in the world. Mrs. El Rey would do a better job coaching the Nats and she knows nothing about baseball. The players would be afraid of her fiery Latina temper and the team would at least be a .500 club! Poder Mrs. El Rey!!!
